At what age am I eligible to participate in the Idaho Lottery?
In the state of Idaho, lottery players must be 18 or older in order to purchase tickets and collect wins.
Can tickets for the Idaho Lottery be purchased online?
No, you cannot purchase Idaho Lottery tickets via mail, phone or online. You can only purchase tickets at retail locations.
How long do I have to claim my lottery winnings in Idaho?
Within 180 days of the draw date or the conclusion of a Scratch game, all winning tickets worth more than $600 must be redeemed at the Idaho Lottery offices in Boise.

The winning ticket is invalid after 180 days, and legally, the Idaho Lottery is unable to honor your claim anymore.

What happens if I misplace or damage my Idaho lottery winning ticket?
Any lost, damaged, or stolen lottery tickets are not the responsibility of the Idaho lottery. Be sure to sign the back of every lottery ticket as soon as you purchase it.
What would happen to the funds if the winner passed away before collecting all of their Idaho lottery winnings?
The outstanding prize money is given to the winner's estate in this undesirable scenario. The winner's designated beneficiary will continue to receive payments from the annuity until it is over.

In the event that an estate has a tax burden, the Multi-State Lottery (MUSL), which manages Powerball and Hot Lotto, does allow beneficiaries to cash in the annuity through a formal petition.

In the occasion that a beneficiary takes this step, the Idaho Lottery would advise the beneficiary to consult with the director of the Idaho Lottery and a tax professional to decide on the best course of action to take.

Does the Idaho Lottery permit winners to remain anonymous?
No, If prize amount is more than $600 then winners inforamation is legally recognized as a public record. Inforamtion includes your full name, the city in which you reside, the amount you won (before and after taxes), the game you won, the name of the retailer from whom you purchased the ticket, and the sum the retailer received for selling the ticket.

However consult a lawyer before claiming any big prizes, as it may be possible to claim your prize through a trust to retain anonymity.

What percentage of each Lottery prize is deducted for taxes in Idaho?
The Lottery promptly deducts Federal and State income taxes from your earnings of prizes exceeding $5,000 in accordance with Idaho law. Idaho's state tax rate is 6.5%, whereas the federal tax rate is 24%. Additionally, the Lottery must report winners of $600 or more to the IRS; however, taxes are not withheld until a price surpasses $5,000.
Are non-resident aliens subject to taxation as well?
Yes. Non-resident aliens of the USA who make money in the country (including prizes from lotteries) must complete both a non-resident Idaho tax form and a non-resident United States tax form. In comparison to citizens of the United States, non-resident aliens are subject to a slightly higher federal tax rate of 30% as compared to 24% for citizens. The withholding rate in Idaho is still 6.925%.

You can visit the Idaho Lottery Tax page for more detailed information.

How can I automatically receive the winning Powerball numbers after the drawing?
To sign up to receive the winning Powerball PowerPlay numbers or any other winning numbers from games by the Idaho Lottery, take a membership in "VIP Club" available in Idaho Lottery website. Members can choose to receive either e-mail alerts or text messages to their cell phones regarding the winning numbers.
Do all members of a group or pool of players have to pay taxes if they claim a large prize?
When big groups of players collect a big jackpot award, every player's portion of the tax obligation is equal. Every claimant gets their W-2 G papers, which outline their tax obligations, as well as a cheque for their share of the outstanding funds.

If a group chooses an annuity, taxes are subtracted annually in accordance with current tax regulations prior to issuing the winners' yearly checks.

The Idaho Lottery is required to pre-pay taxes on winning sums in accordance with the most recent Federal and State tax legislation.
